Founded by Richard Barkey in 1997, Imparta now employs over 80 full-time staff. Our team has a broad variety of functions, from senior sales and engagement management to software development. It is Imparta’s people that give us the edge.

We have over 150 trainers and associate trainers around the world, an in-house translation service and local partners. This gives us the capability to deliver the face-to-face component of our programmes globally in multiple languages.

Imparta has operations and partnerships in the UK, the United States, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa, giving us the ability to deliver large-scale, global roll-outs.

The Executive Team

Richard Barkey

CEO & Founder

Richard is the Founder and CEO of Imparta, which he created in 1997 after seven years at McKinsey & Co. Having grown Imparta to be a world-leading sales and marketing training company, Richard remains closely involved in sales research and learning design, as well as taking overall responsibility for the direction of the business. Richard holds an MA in Engineering from the University of Cambridge and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.

Mark Abell

Chief Marketing Officer

Mark has held various roles at Imparta, including MD of Imparta UK, and has played a key part in the company’s development since it was founded. Before joining Imparta, Mark was Head of International Marketing at the London Stock Exchange. Prior to that, Mark worked in business development at Baring Asset Management and the London Stock Exchange. Mark has a Master’s Degree with Distinction from the London Business School.

Janet Garcia

Chief Commercial Officer

Janet Garcia is a business leader with a strong track record of growing businesses within the training, e-learning and consulting markets. Previous positions held by Janet include Managing Director of e-learning companies Intuition and MindLeaders. As Chief Commercial Officer at Imparta, Janet reports to the CEO and sits on both the Board and the Executive Team. She has direct responsibility for the Global Sales Team, with the primary focus of driving both top- and bottom-line growth of the company.

Nigel Webb

Chief Product Officer

Nigel Webb is an experienced consultant and training design architect with a background in culture change, quality assurance, sales, customer service and learning and development. Previous positions include Head of Quality and Learning for Spinvox and Head of Consultancy for Procter. He has a strong track record of improving organisations. He is responsible for the Design and Creative Teams and focuses on designing learning interventions.

Bala Shanmugam

Chief Financial Officer

Bala is responsible for the smooth running of Imparta’s Finance function, and for the financial impact of our go to market and operating strategies. He is a successful Board-level Finance Director, with a track record that ranges from delivering cost efficiencies through to evaluating and delivering new revenue streams. He has overseen year on year revenue growth for the last 10 years in organisations such as Rethink Group and Consol Partners.

Jean Gamester

Head of Client Services

Jean leads the Client Services Department at Imparta, driving the delivery of great results for our clients, while ensuring internal operational efficiency. Previous positions include Chief Executive of Speakers Trust, UK Director for Toastmasters International, as well as delivering business improvement programmes in a range of sectors. With Master’s Degrees in Economics and HR, she is now working towards a PhD in Organisational Change at Ashridge Business School.
